Definition of computer case

Computer cases are commonly perceived as PC cases. As we know a computer case is the metal shell of a personal computer that contains most of its components. Computer cases have different face, color or even shape but all of them are built to house the hardware of a computer. Most computer cases are designed according to ATX standard, i.e. being able to house an ATX mother board and most add-on cards on the board. This kind of computer case is called standard ATX computer case. However, some computer casehas a special size that makes it different from the standard ATX case.

 

 Types of computer cases

According to mother board compatibility, computer case can be categorized into AT, ATX, Micro ATX and ITX computer cases. According to the way it stands, computer cases can be divided into horizontal and tower case. According to the width of the case, there are standard and slim computer cases. Most standard cases come with ATX size while most slim cases come with Micro ATX size. ATX and Micro ATX cases are most commonly seen on the market.

 

PC Case Material

The major part of a computer case is made of metal, mostly SECC or SGCC steel with front cover made of plastic. Yet, there are other pc cases made from aluminum alloy, including the front panel. This kind of computer case takes on a metal texture that appeals many buyers. It is also good at cooling for better heat conduction of aluminum alloy. However aluminum computer cases are expensive, easy to get scratched on surface and harder to reduce inside noise. The majority of computer cases on the market are still made of steel. The thickness of the steel is more or less 0.5mm. The thicker the stronger, and heavier.

 

Accessories on Computer Case

There are cables on the front panel that connect to mother board and enable users to start computer from the front face of the computer case. Also the HDD LED and Power LED are included in the front panel. Besides, some computer cases have fans mounted on top, rear or front of the chassis. Others may have liquid cooling systems or dust filters on different part of the computer case. In some cases, power supply (or PSU) is regarded as an accessory of a pc case.

 

PC case does not take part in the computing process of a computer. But it is crucial to the stability of a computer as it provides the environment for a computer to work.
